You will treat each other with respect. This includes raising your hand when you would like to talk and not interrupting those that are speaking in class.
When in lab, there will be no messing around. I should not have to state why this is so important. Not only are the chemicals that you do not know what they do, but glassware can get expensive.
The desks are set up in a particular manner to start the year, please place them in the same spot after each class.
You can bring snacks to class, but please clean up. When food is left on the desk and floor we end up with ants in the room.
At the start of the year you may bring ONLY water to class. If you bring other drinks and they spill, there is a ton of sugar in those other drinks. ONLY WATER!!!!!
If you take your drink to the lab area you lose it, you do not know what is on the tables or may get in your drink.
Assignments
Assignments are given on the portal.
You are expected to print the worksheets if you would like, but each assignment should be done on a separate sheet of paper.
I will not accept assignments done on the original worksheet.
PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR ASSIGNMENT!! I am not Batman (as much as I wish), I cannot decipher every student's handwriting.
Each assignment needs to be done in pencil. Do you know why?
Show your work, I'm big on partial credit but I cannot give any if you do not show any work.
Your assignments should be legible and well done when they are turned in.
Turn your stuff in on time! If I do not get an assignment I will be putting a zero in the grade book.
Lab
The lab space is a privilege not a right, remember that!
The lab space should be kept clean, that does not mean you rinse glassware and put it on the drying rake, that means Mr. Beck gets to put it away.
If you are leaving something over night it is important that you label it, I am not looking over the lab 24/7.
All the chemicals are dangerous in their own right. Most of the compounds you will work with are harmless as long as they are handled correctly.
I will use the cleanliness of your lab area as part of your grade when reading your lab reports.
Grading
This class is graded on a total points system. You can keep track of how you are doing if you would like.
I do NOT give extra credit in this class.
If you have a problem with how something was graded, class time is not the time to discuss it. I will gladly look over your work but outside of class.
If you would like to speak with me about an assignment, test, or lab report please do so in a calm manner.
If I look over your work and see that something is correct I will edit the grade. If I look over your work and notice that a question was marked correct when it should have been marked wrong I will edit your grade.
Your grades are available on the portal, you can look at them anytime you would like. When I hand assignments back the scores have been added to the portal.
