Section 19: Nuclear Chemistry
Nuclear Equations
Transmutation, Stability, Magic #, Binding Energy, Decay Series, Carbon Dating
Nuclear chemistry explores the aspects of changing the nucleus of an atom. Each element's atoms have the same number of protons, but may have differing number of neutrons. Nuclear chemistry provides answers to what ratios of protons to neutrons provides a nucleus with stability as well as how might we create new elements. As far as we know, EVERYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE is made up of only 103 building blocks, this is astounding considering the number of different items are found even on Earth. If an new element can be produced, there would be more building blocks which would allow the creation of an unknown number of new things.
