Section 4: Energy
Work, Radiant, Thermal, Chemical, Potential, Kinetic, How Energy Dictates Behavior, Specific Heat
Energy is the reason we are able to do the things that we do. It is responsible for our ability to utilize machines as well as the basis for how life survives on planet Earth. We receive energy from the sun that allows plants to convert water and carbon dioxide to sugar, which is then ingested by animals and converted into energy. |
Work - Either the force applied over a distance or the expansion of a gas against constant pressure
Radiant - Energy associated with light Thermal - Energy associated with changes in temperature Chemical - The energy wrapped up in bonds between atoms Potential - The energy associated with differences in height position, or the amount of energy that could be unleashed in a chemical reaction Kinetic - The energy of a moving object Nuclear - Converting mass into energy. |
